Welcome to RightBooks4Kids! We are so glad you’re here. We’d like to take a moment to introduce ourselves, and would love it if you’d subscribe and comment with an introduction comment of your own! We endeavor to build a community of parents and grandparents here who care deeply about the future of education and children’s literature. We are conservative, religious homeschooling mothers, but you don’t have to be in order to fit in here. We hope to build a community of people who care; who care about the state of education and perhaps more importantly, who care to do something about it. We’d like to be that resource for you.
Bethany: I’m a homeschooling mother of six and a political commentator. I recently co-authored a book about the woke indoctrination of children with one of my best friends, Karol Markowicz. I work with the Heroes of Liberty patriotic children’s book series and write across the internet about issues related to culture, parenting, and education from a conservative perspective. I began my career in the conservative movement at The Heritage Foundation before moving on to Commentary Magazine. Since my oldest was born ten years ago, I’ve freelanced from home in order to be full-time with my kid(s).
One of my missions in life is to normalize and grow homeschooling within the Jewish community. One of my goals here is to provide resources for interested Jewish parents who are considering making the leap.
(Note: Everything I write is from a Jewish perspective and everything Rachel does is from a Christian, I believe that to be a strength here, but I want to reassure Jewish readers that while Rachel writes about her POV as a Christian, this is not a Christian Substack. I want to reassure Christian readers that while I write about my POV as a Jew, this isn’t just a Jewish Substack.)
I live in Silver Spring, MD in a wonderful Jewish community of homeschoolers. We have a website with information about what we’ve built (and are hoping to grow) here; please be in touch if you’re Jewish, homeschooling (or homeschool-interested), and are interested in being part of what we have here.
Rachel: I’m a homeschooling mother of four, ages newborn-15yrs old (yes, I’m old-ish) and a small farm owner in the DC area. My husband and I are high school sweethearts and were born and raised in Los Angeles County. After 40yrs of living in The Golden State, we decided that we’d pave a new path and trade the concrete jungle for trying our hand at raising sheep, rabbits, ducks, and chickens. Since moving to the East Coast I have taken my love for politics/current events and started an online community, sharing political takes from a conservative viewpoint. In doing so, I realized that the ground-level for cultural change in our country (be it positive or negative) starts with the mind of our youth. Combining my love for literature and concern for prevailing (and harmful) narratives in our society has allowed me to find a home right here.
One of my personal goals is to empower women and families to choose what is beautiful, right, and virtuous for their families and children and anyone paying attention knows that goal will prove a challenge in modern day society. Bethany and I hope to come alongside you, dear reader, and offer tools, encouragement, resources, and insight as you plod through the beautiful ordinary.
