More State Dominos Fall Against the ALA
More states are making moves to withdraw from the American Library Association
Last week it was announced that the Montana State Library Commission officially voted to break all ties with the American Library Association (ALA) over the fact that they elected a self-described "Marxist" as their president.
When Emily Drabinski was elected to the ALA’s top slot, she was not shy about the fact that she would wield her power in order to shape the organization and the world within her Marxist framework.
Montana was the first state to separate from the ALA, and now we’re seeing the dominos fall, and they are unlikely to be the last.
Other state lawmakers are calling on their own library associations to follow suit. I spoke with Andy Roth, the President of the State Freedom Caucus Network, who shared how the Freedom Caucus of Wyoming, Idaho, Georgia, and Mississippi were calling on their states’ library associations to do the same.
The Mississippi lawmakers explained,
No decent American should tolerate the promotion of sexually explicit materials to children, yet that Is just what the president-elect of the ALA, a self-proclaimed Marxist, has dedicated her career to promoting.Â
The MSFC received data and Information collected by Sen. Angela Hill which Indicates that the State of Mississippi has funded the ALA to the tune of nearly $70,000 in taxpayer dollars since 2015. The State of Mississippi should never utilize taxpayer dollars to support such a radically left organization.Â
The MSFC has teamed with Senators Chris McDaniel, Angela Hill, Melanie Sojourner, and Kathy Chism as members of the Mississippi Legislature calling on ALL State Agencies and Universities to immediately withdraw, separate, and denounce the ALA and discontinue any further payments to the organization. Â
As state legislators, we are particularly charged with ensuring taxpayer-funded institutions take no part in furthering ethically and morally repugnant agendas inconsistent with the values of the State of Mississippi.Â
Brian Lenney, a state lawmaker in Idaho, brought the receipts for how much his state is paying out in training to the ALA.
Roth shared with RB4K that these states are just the tip of the iceberg; more dominos will be falling in the coming days with other state legislatures calling on their own state library associations and state governments to cut ties with the ALA.
The power of the ALA cannot be understated. The ALA has its hands in the lives of each and every American librarian in some way; librarians who use their bulk purchasing power (with our tax dollars) to incentivize the worst books possible for our kids. It’s become an activist organization led by someone who uses her power through the framework of her sexual and political identity.
The efforts of these lawmakers are critically important in the fight against the darkness that has invaded children’s literature. We can’t wait to see more states join forces in this fight; it’s about time.
