The American Library Association keeps track of the books that patrons object to. Over the course of the last ten years, the list has transformed from Captain Underpants to highly inappropriate content with gender and race at the fore. One of the most challenged books over the course of the last seven years is George (which then was retitled Melissa) by the writer Alex Gino, who goes by they/them pronouns.
